Caprese

I really enjoy making my dinner presentable. This is pretty weak on the creative aspect, but I feel like it makes food a lot more appetizing to make it pretty :)

The Road to Academia

It may be small, but it sure is beautiful.

Lil Jon induced by Sangria

This is from my September trip to Europe. Tessa and I are at the Gaudi Park, drinking some sangria. I guess it made us a little giddy and have a very shake hand. And I sound more like a witch than Lil Jon. I miss my white girl tan.

Crazy Buenos Aires

The most fun place on the planet: Club 69

Check out my buddy Sebastian's moves in the center :)

At 6 in the morning, all the dancers would put on a show for the club. It was the best part of the night, what everybody waited out for.

And after the show would come the balloons. The game would be to try to catch one and shoot it back into the crowd.

I would go to this club every thursday. I think I missed it maybe 3 times in 6 months. It was my tradition. I loved it. My memories with so many friends there are awesome.

Every monday was La Bomba del Tiempo, a drum school that would do a show at the Konex. The line would always always be around the block. While you were waiting, you would be offered Quilmes beer, flyers for after parties, and space cakes! When finally entering, you headed over to the bar to get your litre of Stella and the night was on! Everyone around you just lets loose and bumps to the beat. It's a freeing atmosphere and just so much fun.

If you haven't already, visit Buenos Aires. There is no place like it when it comes to enjoying life. Those 6 months were truly the best 6 months of my life.

Guide to Santa Cruz

If you're ever in the area, here are the eateries to hit up:

515 Kitchen and Cocktails

515 Cedar Street
http://515kitchenandcocktails.com/

Here's a peak at the Dinner Menu and Wine Menu. The Beer, Wine and Drink Menu is very extensive. My personal favorites would be The Naomi Simms and I just recently tried the Cabernet Cupcake which was incredible. The name says it all.

The food is delightful, but you go to the 515 for its atmosphere. The dark lounge and small patio give you an intimate setting in every corner. The perfect spot for drinks and long conversations.

Gabriella Cafe

910 Cedar Street
www.gabriellacafe.com

This cute little cafe seems to be designed for dates, because of the tables "for 2" but I recommend it, no matter what the occasion is. The Menu surprisingly has items such as cheek, heart, intestine, etc.. I ordered the "whole Bass" and indeed the whooole Bass came out, but it was delicious. My friend's swordfish was great as well.

Soif

105 Walnut Ave.
www.soifwine.com/

The best part about Soif, besides the delicious food, is that they pair a wine with each entrée to enhance your dining experience. The place is quaint and accessible to all size groups. I'm kicking myself right now for forgetting the name, but I did have the most exceptional beer here. It was incredible!

Malabar is another good one to check out. The portions are small, but the flavors are amazing.

--These are all located in Downtown, Santa Cruz.

Moar Face (O-GOD edit) -- amazing as well

I know that this song has had the shit remixed out of it, but here's another good one.

Thank Schitz Popinov for all these sick beats ;)

Hot Dinner in a Cold House

-- Sweet Bell Pepper and Persian Cucumber Salad, with Fresh Onion and Annie's Dressing

-- Grilled Cajun Tilapia

-- Clara's Olive Oil and Garlic Salt Asparagus.. that set off the smoke alarm!

Enneagram

You should try this out. It doesn't dictate what your life should be, but helps you discover things about yourself that you might not have thought of on your own. It kind of changed my life. I am a Type 2: The Helper.

Here's a link to buy the book:

It's really worth a try.

It's so fucking good!

Tribute: Gabriel García Márquez

This man's writing shakes you to the core.

"Over the years they both reached the same wise conclusion by different paths: it was not possible to live together in any other way, or love in any other way, and nothing in this world was more difficult than love."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"For they had lived together long enough to know that love was always love, anytime and anyplace, but it was more solid the closer it came to death."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"It was a love of perpetual flight."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"Life is not what one lived, but what One remembers and how One remembers it in order to recount it"
— Gabriel García Márquez

"We men are the miserable slaves of prejudice, but when a woman decides to sleep with a man, there is no wall she will not scale, no fortress she will not destroy, no moral consideration she will not ignore at its very root: there is no God worth worrying about."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"A lie is more comfortable than doubt, more useful than love, more lasting than truth."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"She would not shed a tear, she would not waste the rest of her years simmering in the maggot broth of memory."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"...and both of them remained floating in an empty universe where the only everyday & eternal reality was love..."
— Gabriel García Márquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude)

"With her Florentino Ariza learned what he had already experienced many times without realizing it: that one can be in love with several people at the same time, feel the same sorrow with each, and not betray any of them. Alone in the midst of the crowd on the pier, he said to himself in a flash of anger: 'My heart has more rooms than a whorehouse.'"
— Gabriel García Márquez (Love in the Time of Cholera)

"The only regret I will have in dying is if it is not for love."
— Gabriel García Márquez (Love in the Time of Cholera)

"It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams."
— Gabriel García Márquez

"sex is the consolation you have when you can't have love"
— Gabriel García Márquez

"To him she seemed so beautiful, so seductive, so different from ordinary people, that he could not understand why no one was as disturbed as he by the clicking of her heels on the paving stones, why no one else's heart was wild with the breeze stirred by the sighs of her veils, why everyone did not go mad with the movements of her braid, the flight of her hands, the gold of her laughter. He had not missed a single one of her gestures, not one of the indications of her character, but he did not dare approach her for fear of destroying the spell."
— Gabriel García Márquez (Love in the Time of Cholera)

"If I knew that today would be the last time I’d see you, I would hug you tight and pray the Lord be the keeper of your soul. If I knew that this would be the last time you pass through this door, I’d embrace you, kiss you, and call you back for one more. If I knew that this would be the last time I would hear your voice, I’d take hold of each word to be able to hear it over and over again. If I knew this is the last time I see you, I’d tell you I love you, and would not just assume foolishly you know it already."
— Gabriel García Márquez

Love in the Time of Cholera remains and will remain my favorite book of all time. Márquez captures a kind of love that is so hard to summarize because it is so thoroughly present in every word of the book and plump with every kind of emotion that to summarize it would only dissuade you from reading it yourself.

Don't see the movie. It sucked the soul out of the novel.

Skye's Movie Picks

LOL is the cutest French film EVER!

Whip It is another one to add to the cute pile. The storyline is original and the script is good. There is also a wonderful underwater sequence even though Ellen Page looks a bit uncomfortable.

StepBrothers I am not really a Will Ferrell fan but this movie is f-in HILARIOUS

Punch Drunk Love incredible, amazing, wonderful.. a classic of its time

Paris is Burning is one of the most unique and interesting documentaries I have ever seen, following the lives Drag Queens of New York City in the 80s.

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist... I never had the urge to see this film and it pleasantly surprised me when I ended up watching it on a rainy afternoon.

In Don't Look Back, you fall in love with Bob Dylan's quirky personality and great ideals.

Check them out!

Déjà Vu

So in an earlier blog post, I randomly put Peter Schilling's "Major Tom" as a fun song for dancing in front of the mirror. I just saw a commercial with a cover of that song by Shiny Toy Guns. And it's sick!

I am not sure, but I feel like that song was inspired by David Bowie's classic "Space Oddity"

New Moon

So I went to go see New Moon the other night. It seemed like Pearl and I were the last ones on the Earth to have not seen it. But besides the slow pace and corny script, I actually enjoyed it. It was probably because everyone was beautiful and who doesn't like to watch beautiful people for 2 hours?

What I was most struck by was the soundtrack. These two songs are wonderful:

Possibility - Lykke Li

All I Believe In - The Magic Numbers & Amadou and Mariam
(I could only find this cheesy video)

Enjoy

España

Does everyone have a Spanish friend that comes over and cooks for them? They're super handy! Hahah

He gave them all a name in Spanish but now I can't remember so I call it...

Bruschetta Extravaganza:
- Sauteed Apple with Fresh Onion with Provolone and Bell Pepper
- Herb Goat Cheese, Bell Pepper, Kalamata Olives, Sundried Tomato and Garlic
- Tuna, Sundried Tomato, Goat Cheese and Provolone
- Sloow cooked lamb shank and asparagus with olive oil and garlic salt

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!
